Hotel History

Opening as The Red Lion Hotel in 1603, having previously been an inn and coaching post, it is probably the oldest establishment in Basingstoke with a 400 year history of catering for travellers.

Today The Red Lion continues its tradition of providing an excellent service to travellers and the local people of Basingstoke.

Good British food, with the addition of many familiar dishes from the Mediterranean, fine wines, good ale and an unsurpassed welcome from the Red Lion Team. The Red Lion combines a traditional hotel restaurant and bar, offering bar lunches, snacks or afternoon tea and full a la carte dinner service, with providing modern facilities for corporate guests in our conference rooms.

Conveniently placed in the centre of town, close to shops and registry office, the perfect venue for weddings, family celebrations or a lunch break from work or shopping. In our newly refurbished Festival Suite, we have the ideal background for a splendid wedding breakfast, and options to suit any bridal couple.
